Círculo de Amigas Bags

The sewing and student sponsorship programs at Círculo de Amigas most benefit women who are lucky enough to own a sewing machine - which Circulo helps them to do - or who have a daughter ready for primary school.

For other women, income can be supplemented by crocheting totes using discarded plastic grocery bags. The totes are sold in the U.S. and the profits are returned to the women who made them. Thus blossoms a little cottage industry in Barrio Linda Vista Sur.

The totes come in three sizes: Medium, the most popular size, accommodates a letter-size file folder; Small (right) is a nice size purse for kicking around; Large (not shown) can hold a legal-size file folder. Also available are cell-phone (front and center) and water-bottle (left) caddies. Designs and colors vary by artesana.

If you would like to help the women of the barrio by sending crochet hooks or plastic grocery bags - believe it or not, they don't have a billion of them lying around, as we do here in the U.S. - please contact us. If you would like to get in the queue to buy the finished product, please contact us!
