Circulo de Amigas Up Close Video!

The story of Círculo de Amigas (Circle of Friends) is the story of how one woman's resolve to teach a group of rural Nicaraguan women to sew has grown to encompass much more than just clothing bodies. Today Círculo is improving health; stimulating minds; building homes; empowering communities; and even saving the rain forest!

Círculo de Amigas:

  • Sponsors more than 100 students to ensure they'll go to school
  • Provides jobs to an all-Nicaraguan staff that supports the students and their barrios
  • Staffs a low-cost clinic with full time doctor and nurse
  • Operates a small community center
  • Runs a small lending library and literacy programs
  • Teaches health and nutrition
  • Provides assistance to a "Head Start" style pre-school
  • Offers vocational and handicrafts skills classes Click here for info on Circulo's bags

In early 2005, Círculo found a new sponsoring organization in Centro de Estudios y Promoción Social (CEPS), a Nicaraguan social service agency. CEPS is headed by Dr. Leonel Arguello, a highly respected leader in the areas of pubic health, education and community development, who has spent a career bringing social services to the poorer communities of Nicaragua. Like Círculo, CEPS works to promote an increased self reliance among local community members such that the community is increasingly capable of improving its own health and prosperity.
